The Ramblers’ Association of Malta said today it found it "unbelievable and disquieting" that the Prime Minister has “secretly consented to sanction the illegal occupation of public land at Armier" in what it said was a pre-election gimmick.

"To add insult to injury, Enemalta is now proposing to build a substation estimated at €82,000 so that these illegal settlements can be better-served." [from timesofmalta]

The right words in maltese for the nationalists are 'OQBRA MBAJDA'.
Can they be ashamed of themselves one in a life time.....?

In such situations, where 2 groups are at loggerheads, the main concern of both parties is to keep everyone somewhat happy and somewhat unhappy and lose as little votes as possible.
It worked with BirdLife and hunters - they didn't lose much votes from either group. So they have no reason not to try it again.
The Armier squatters were far more crafty than the Ramblers. The Ramblers were satisfied with Lawrence and Kate walking with them on the beach (and having the Ramblers eco-credentials rub off on them) but the Armier squatters wanted and waited for a concrete (sorry for the pun) undertaking that their squat would be legalised. Just goes to show - you shouldn't believe all they tell you
